Your STL files and G-code
When you choose or drop an STL file, it is read and processed by your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly. Parsing, the 3D preview, format conversion and slicing all happen on your device. The file, any converted output and the generated G-code are not transmitted to us or to any third party, and we cannot see them.
Your files are held in your browser's memory only while the page is open. STLSite does not save them to permanent storage, and closing or reloading the tab discards them. Anything you download is saved by your browser to your device and is under your control.
To work, the site downloads its own static files (the page code, the slicing engine and the printer and material profile data) from our servers the first time you use a tool. These are requests for the site's files only and contain none of your model data.
Data stored on your device
STLSite stores a single item in your browser's local storage, named stlsite-theme. It records whether you chose the light or dark theme so the site can apply your preference on your next visit. It stays on your device and is not sent to us.
The site also uses Google Analytics, which sets its own cookies (such as_ga) in your browser to distinguish visitors and measure site usage. These cookies are set and read by Google, not by STLSite directly.
You can remove these values at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.
Server logs and hosting
Like most websites, our servers and hosting infrastructure automatically process technical information when your browser requests a page or file. This typically includes your IP address, the requested URL, the date and time, and your browser and device type. It is used to deliver the site, keep it secure and diagnose problems. We do not use it to build profiles of visitors or to track you across other websites. Logs are kept by our hosting provider for a limited period under its own policies.
If you contact us
If you email us, or use the form on the Contact page, we receive the information you include, such as your name, email address and message. The contact form does not send anything through our servers: it opens your email app with a message addressed to us, and the message is sent through your email provider when you press send.
We use this information only to read and respond to your message and to improve the service, and we keep it for as long as needed for that purpose. Please do not include sensitive personal information, or attach models you would not want us to see.
Third parties and links
STLSite uses Google Analytics to understand how many people visit the site and which pages they use. Google Analytics may collect information such as your approximate location, device and browser type, and the pages you visit. This data is processed by Google and is never linked to your STL files or generated output, which stay on your device. Aside from Google Analytics, STLSite does not embed third-party advertising, social media widgets or externally hosted fonts. The fonts used on the site are served from our own files.
Some pages link to external websites, such as the CuraEngine project on GitHub. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which we do not control. If we ever add another service that processes personal data, we will update this policy to describe it.
Children
STLSite is a general-purpose tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your choices and rights
Because STLSite collects very little personal data, there is usually little to access, correct or delete. Where we do hold personal information, for example emails you have sent us, you can ask us what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR, the UK GDPR or US state privacy laws. To make a request, contact us using the details below.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example if we add features. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page shows when it last changed.
